Helping Youth Reach Their Full Potential
January at the Club: Serving Up 4,230 Nutritious Meals!
We care about our youth and their well-being, especially when it comes to staying healthy and fit. We’re committed to doing our part and being a helpful solution to this important issue. We believe that it’s important to take a stand against childhood obesity and prevent health diseases in our youth. That’s why we make sure to serve only healthy meals to our young members every day. They each receive a nutritious snack and meal while at our Clubs. In January alone, we were able to provide over 4,000 healthy meals! We are committed to building a generation of healthy individuals. Our programs, such as Healthy Habits and Triple Play Plus, focus on promoting a healthy mind, body, and soul for all of our Club members. Healthy Habits teaches our members how to make good choices that support a healthy eating pattern and physical wellness. Through Triple Play, our members learn new ways to eat nutritionally, manage stress, and stay physically fit. We are grateful to our investors and supporters who help us in our mission to combat unhealthy youth in the Twin Counties. Thank you for joining us in this fight!
Dreaming Big with our Youth!
Did you know that 85% of jobs that will exist in 2030 haven’t even been invented yet? The world is changing at lightning speed, and we want our youth to be prepared for the future. At the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tar River Region, we believe in empowering our youth to graduate with a plan for the future. We have programs such as Planet Mogul and Clubhouse professional staff to help our youth reach their full potential. Planet Mogul’s primary focus is getting youth ready for the future by developing a diverse pipeline of entrepreneurs, community leaders and innovators prepared for the future workforce. Our Club members visited our local airport to learn about exciting careers in aviation, explored a movie production studio to discover the world of film and entertainment, and even had a special guest from Cummins Rocky Mount Engine Plant, a mechanical engineer, who shared insights about careers in engineering and the automotive/energy industry. Currently we have Club members enrolled in the program, and we are looking to continue to expand this to reach more of our youth. By exposing them to different industries and career paths, we’re igniting their curiosity and helping them envision their dreams.
From Good to Great BGCTRR’s Academic Success with Mentorship
Image   Our Be Well Coordinator had a great chat with the youth at the Edgecombe County Clubhouse. They talked about how the school year was going and their grades. When it was Eugene’s turn to speak, he seemed hesitant about his recent report card. He didn’t do as well as he wanted and felt a little embarrassed to share. But Kyler encouraged him to open up and share his grades. As she listened, she reminded Eugene that she believed in him and knew he could do better. That was just the boost of motivation and inspiration that Eugene needed. After that conversation, Eugene worked extra hard and improved his grades in all his courses. In the photo, you can see Eugene and Kyler together. Eugene considers Kyler to be his mentor because she inspired him to do better in school. At the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tar River Region, we believe that mentoring is key to helping our youth reach their full potential. They deserve someone to look up to, talk through their worries, and celebrate their victories with. And that’s where our incredible mentors come in! We’re all cheering for Eugene, and we have high hopes that he’s been able to improve all his grades for his next report card.

You can make a difference and support our Club members like Eugune throughout the year. Here’s how you can help:   🔹For just $25, you can ensure that our Club members are at or above grade level. 🔹A generous contribution of $100 can provide a Club member with a dedicated mentor. 🔹And a one-time gift of $1260, provides membership for one young person into our Club. A hot meal. Help with homework. A kind and encouraging word from someone who believes in you. These are the moments that shape great futures for our young people, especially those who need us the most. Their next incredible moment can start with YOU. Click HERE to make an investment in our youth and be a part of their journey towards success!

A Second Chance to Make a Great First Impression

Image
Meet Rashad, one of our amazing alumni from our organization. Like many young people, Rashad fell in with the wrong crowd. But thankfully, he found his way to our Impact Plus program.  This program is specifically designed for youth who have been referred to us by the Juvenile Court System and or Teen Court. Our awesome staff works with these kids to complete community service hours at the club and around the community, meeting all the requirements set by the judge. After spending some time in the Impact Plus program and turning his life around, Rashad has become the productive, responsible and caring citizen we always knew he could be.
Rashad currently is working at Pfizer and has big dreams of opening his own business. We know that we never get a second chance to make a first impression, but like Rashad and the young people in the Impact Plus program, we can get a second chance to make a lasting impression. We look forward to all the great things we know
he will accomplish in the future.
